#SiningBayanihan: Quintessence

“All grown-ups were once children... but only few of them remember it.” - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, #TheLittlePrince 👑👦🌹🦊🌠

Childhood is one of the best memories I have. When life gets hard, reminiscing childhood things is one of my escape such as watching cartoons, animated movies, singing along Disney musicals, playing UNO cards, and even catching up with childhood friends. Last year, my big sister had a baby, my first niece. She's such a bundle of joy, and just lightens up everyone's mood. As a certified tito, I learned new nursery rhymes which we play in the TV when she's playing. Having a child around reminds us how it's like to be feel young again.

Remembering my childhood days here at the same house we still live in, so many things have changed but deep inside I still feel like a boy at home. I'm very childish and even in my art, if you notice, is very much inspired by kid's illustrated books. I don't have proper art studies so my anatomy is out of proportions. I love to draw things that makes me happy, colorful, and exciting. And that's basically how I define my style.

In my last year in high school, our English teacher introduced us to this wonderful piece of literature, and has become my all time favorite book, the Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It's about a child prince who lives in a little planet and travels different planets until he reaches earth. He meets different grown-ups and important characters like the pilot (the narrator), and a fox, whom he tames and teaches him a very valuable lesson:
“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

So for today's challenge, with the theme "Kabataan" or Youth, I created a fan art of the book and film. The animated digital illustration is entitled "Quintessence." Check out the timelapse of the creation process here:

Day 24: A Couple

30 day drawing challenge 24 couple glee gleek finchel finn hudson rachel berry
Here's a tribute to one of my favorite couples on TV, Finn and Rachel, also known as Finchel, the main love team of the popular musical series, Glee. The couple played by Cory Monteith and Lea Michelle, were also a couple in real life. Unfortunately, the talented Cory had a drug overdose and died in a Vancouver Hotel room at the age of 31. As I was watching Glee's tribute to Finn/Cory, I couldn't help but be emotional with that episode. I'm a gleek at heart and I have witnessed their journey from being ambitious students to becoming national champions. Finn is definitely a quarterback, a leader. Someone who is not afraid to be himself and even helped others to be comfortable with showing their talents to others. He is an inspiration to his fellow glee members, to his mentors, and to every gleeks out there. Rachel, the love of his life, is just as talented. A girl with big dreams of becoming a singing star. They had ups and downs but there is one thing they know for sure, they are destined for each other. But it's sad that their love story didn't have a sweet ending. Finn's voice will always be in our heads. RIP Cory Monteith.

Day 17: Favorite Plant

30 day drawing challenge 11 illustration
Can't decide on which plant is my favorite. I was considering venus flytrap and rafflesia. But then, I realize i was overthinking. There are no rules in this challenge I can draw whatever I want. So I chose Bulbasaur, the first pokemon in the pokedex and perhaps the second cutest thing on earth, next to charmander (my favorite pokemon).hehehe. Bulbasaur is a plant, a grass-type pokemon. Based on Bulbapedia, the onion-like bulb on its back grows from a seed planted on its back by its mother at birth. Bulbasaur's bulb shares a symbiotic relationship that is beneficial for both. This allows Bulbasaur to get an enhanced boost of energy from the sun during the day (synthesis) and the bulb to remain growing and strong at night. The bulb also contains many seeds from which it draws nutrients. Here are some trivia about the little critter:

This is my tribute art for one of my favorite children's book writer Dr Seuss. He's a famous American writer, poet and cartoonist known for his works like "Cat in the Hat", "The Grinch", and "Horton hears a Who!" which were made into movies, too. My cousin has a full collection of his books and i remembered being fascinated by his quirky and imaginative world and characters. I doodled this about a year ago in my doodle book and decided to make it into a
