Every year PANTONE®, a color company, deliberates among thousands of colors a Color of the Year. They base it from worldwide trends and observations in fashion, home, lifestyle, cosmetics, appliances, electronics, design, current events and a lot more. For 2012, they declared Tangerine Tango (PANTONE® 17-1436) as the 2012 PANTONE® Color of the Year. According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®, Tangerine tango is “Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it. In my opinion, Tangerine Tango is a perfect color to represent 2012. I have seen the hue in Magazines for a while now and it is really a trending color. It is a good color for design because it gives an appealing aura that is classy and sexy and the same time. It's time to spice up our life with a twist of Tangerine Tango. And to pay tribute to the Color of the Year, here's a collection of awesome artworks with the color Tangerine.

Animahenasyon 2012 Poster

This is the winning poster that will be used as the campaign material for Animahenasyon 2012. The title of the poster is "Whimsical Dreams" designed by Pamela Reyes. Personally, it is one of my top picks and i'm satisfied that it won. The design is very cute and appealing to any type of audience. It's contemporary and very inspired by doodle-ish characters or those japanese cute characters. However I can still see the Filipino because of the salakot and the flag above its head.

I love the grainy texture, colors, depth and the mere layout. I just wish that the other characters look more Filipino. Their poses are not that dynamic and the swings remind me much of last year's poster. And my last critic is the typography. The text is very plain and mediocre. Good thing they changed it in the final design. Having said that, I'm still like it because it represents happiness, charm, festive, friendly, modern, and contemporary.

Anyways, I hope that this time I can make it to the competition. Next year's host is the School of Design and Arts of College of St. Benilde. It will be on November 26-29, 2012. Good luck to all animators out there and wishing the best for the Philippine Animation industry.

Blogging 101 Seminar has kick started the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 2011 lasts September 22, 2011 at Mindanao Sanitarium Hospital Conference Hall. Among the topics discussed were the basics of blogging, web designing, online article writing, travel blogging and photography. With participants from Iligan City and it’s neighboring towns and cities (Marawi City), Blogging 101 has indeed spurred up blogging interest within the area!

The keynote speaker for the MBS5 is Commissioner Naderev Saño of the National Climate Change Commission to talk about the pressing matter of climate change and it’s over all impact. The line up for speakers include Aileen Apollo – de Jesus of Google Inc. , professor/researcher Dr. Marilou Siton -Nanaman, environmental advocate Anna Oposa, Ali Bari from DENR 10, and social media specialist Janette Toral.

Back in 2008, I have been fascinated with doodling and one of my favorite application of doodle art are Plush toys or Plushies.I was so hooked up that I made my own set. Some of them are created just for my friends but i forgot to give it to them. :DIt was really easy to do and very addicting. I made all these in just two nights! Every stitch was created with all my effort and love. <3I hope i can make more of these soon. Check out my inspiration post about Plushies here.

Last time I featured doodle inspired designer toys. Aside from vinyl there is also another way in reacreating your characters using fabrics and thread. Plushies are customized toys made of different sorts of frabric stitched into a form of a character. These are cute easy to make creatures that can be made as keychains or display in your study table or workspace. Plushies can also be made of leather and accented with with buttons, gems, beads, sequins and sorts of embellishments. They usually have huge running stitches in the edges. Another style of a plushie is its 2d look, unlike stuffed toys. So here is the pandora's box of my favorite plushies.

Unpainted toys are also available for those who don't have the money to mold their own design. These templates can be painted to form your custom design. Few years ago me and my classmates created a doodle group inspired by the famous doodle group in Manila called WeeWillDoodle. Our group it called Man "Doodle 'Ta!" which is chabacano for "Let's Doodle!". Our first public exposure was during our college's night. We setup used tarpaulins and markers to do our big doodle wall. Then we also had the chance to do another doodle for an event held at Catribo during the city fiesta. Sometimes we also have doodle sessions whenever we have used tarps. I really miss doing this! My puberty is at its peak when i was in third year high school. From a small boy the past years, I grew a couple of inches and a lot of changes was occurring in my body. But unlike the unlucky teenagers, I didn't have major problems about it. In fact, i was happier and i had more confidence. It started when I was transferred back to the first section (Dalton) and i was so happy to be classmates with my best friends again. Being back to the company of my old friends, i also had the opportunity to meet more friends in our section. We called ourselves Daltonix.

Being part of this group was ultimately crazy. Everybody was changing physically and emotionally. It means everyday i have to deal with all the drama of the people. It seems like everyone is trying to gain attention. But everyone can't handle too much demand of attention so they created groups and divided the class to bits. I belonged to K'09 or Kabarkada 09 which was formed after the series of subject groupings and overnight practices. They were the best bunch of friends i had. We shared laughters and tears, listen and understood each other when no one seems to understand us. The group even had controversies for being too different from the rest of the class.

But still being part of this class will really test you as a person. Aside from all the pressure from the academics and problems in life, there are also people who will break you. Good thing we have real friends who is always there for you.

And so with all these drama, my only outlet of expression is drawing and doodling. Here is one of my biggest doodle that i made during my junior year in high school. It's about all the things that happened in the classroom. This is buhay Daltonix!

Valori Umani: Imagination

Imagination is the ability to form a mental image of something that is not perceived through the senses. It is the ability of the mind to build mental scenes, objects or events that do not exist, are not present or have happened in the past. Memory is actually a manifestation of imagination. Everyone possesses some imagination ability. In some it may be highly developed and in others it may manifest in a weaker form. It manifests in various degrees in various people.

Imagination makes it possible to experience a whole world inside the mind. It gives the ability to look at any situation from a different point of view, and enables one to mentally explore the past and the future.

It manifests in various forms, one of which is daydreaming. Though too much idle daydreaming may make one impractical, some daydreaming, when not being engaged in something that requires attention provides some temporary happiness, calmness and relief from stress.

In your imagination you can travel anywhere in the speed of light without any obstacles. It can make you feel free, though temporarily, and only in the mind, from tasks, difficulties and unpleasant circumstances.[ref]

Valori Umani: Faith

Faith is what bridges the gap between evidence and belief for many people. It allows people to believe in that which they cannot prove is out there. It is the chosen vehicle, according to the Bible, for salvation. So how valuable does that make faith compared to evidence? If we were capable of presenting empirical evidence that God exists and has a plan for us, would faith be necessary? Would belief based on evidence save us the same as belief based on faith? If belief must be based on faith and not evidence, then faith is infinitely more valuable than empirical evidence. [ref]

Animated Love Story

Last week, i had the opportunity to make my first animated love story for a couple's wedding. Xavier (pronounced as chav-ye) and Teresa, lives in Spain and decided to have their wedding here in the Philippines, Teresa's homeland. I created the characters and background in Illustrator and animated it in AfterEffects. The animation serves as a video support cause we don't have that much time to create a fully animated lovestory. Here's the full video of Xavier and Teresa's love story.

Valori Umani: Patriotism

Patriotic love is for one's country, true brotherhood expresses love of mankind, care and respect for nature is love of creation and - for those who profess religious belief - devotion is love of the Creator. The word patriotism comes from a Greek word meaning fatherland. For most of history, love of fatherland or homeland was an attachment to the physical features of the land. But that notion changed in the eighteenth century, when the ideals of democracy, socialism, and communism strongly emerged into political thought. Patriotism was still a love of one's country that included connections to the land and people, but then also included its customs and traditions, pride in its history, and devotion to its welfare.

Today most people agree that patriotism also involves service to their country, but many disagree on how to best perform such service. Some believe that the national government speaks for a country; therefore, all its citizens should actively support government policies and actions. Others argue that a true patriot speaks out when convinced that their country is following an unwise or unjust action.[ref]

Valori Umani: Serenity

Serenity is defined in the dictionary as being without stress and anxiety: a state or condition of being tranquil and calm. A serene person has peace of mind, a relaxed nature and takes things in stride without worrying: contentment.

Serenity is also a goal to be achieved. Serenity is not the ordinary condition that we are in when we go about our daily lives. Turmoil seems to be the 'normal' condition. It seems that we are always in some sort of conflict and trouble eating away at us. This is especially true of addicts and alcoholics. Serenity is at the opposite end of turmoil. [ref]

Valori Umani: Care

Care is a basic human value which again relates to concern and respect for others and the environment. It is often expressed by the word 'love' used in a broader sense than in common parlance. Love as care does not refer to an emotion or a state of mind so much as to a human faculty of identification with others, sympathy with all beings, creation and - in spiritual or religious beliefs - of Divinity. Love seeks many and various channels of realisation. It's essence can be characterised by the words "Love is unselfish care and concern for the well-being of others and the world at large.

The less selfish it is, the more it enriches life. Being universal, it takes on different general forms in different relations; mother love, fatherly love, conjugal love of one's partner, loving friendship etc. Being neither a sensation, an emotion nor a mere conception, but being identifiable only at the heart or core of the human consciousness, love in this universal sense is the characteristic par excellence of the human soul or psyche. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture, and paintings. The meaning of art is explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics, and even disciplines such as history and psychoanalysis analyze its relationship with humans and generations.

Traditionally, the term art was used to refer to any skill or mastery. This conception changed during the Romantic period, when art came to be seen as "a special faculty of the human mind to be classified with religion and science". Valori Umani: Love, Peace

Peacefulness in a persons's life, in society and in world terms is a product of all postive values working together sufficiently. Without truth, caring concern (or 'love') and justice, conflicts arise and peace is endangered or lost. While peace is the absence of disturbance, violence, war and wrongdoing generally, it is tangible present when experienced individually as peace of mind, the mutual respect and pleasure of friendliness and tolerance.. As a universally-accepted positive value, peace refers to the experience of harmony, a balanced but nevertheless dynamic mental condition. Peace of mind can be independent of 'externals' like the absence of disturbance in 'peace and quiet', or the intrusion of an environment through noise, violence, terror etc.). Inner blissfulness which is not dependent upon external sensory or physical conditions is a high expression of peacefulness. [ref]

Valori Umani: Harmony

Harmony is the coming together of disparate elements for common purpose. It is the moving together of varied or opposing forces, so that they emerge in a higher truth that all can benefit from (not merely a compromised truth). The value of Teamwork is one variation of the value of Harmony, as is the value of Organization. Harmony is such noble and elevated a value that it can be considered a spiritual value.

Make harmony a permanent personal value that you believe in and practice. Over the next few days and weeks notice points of conflict that appear in your work and life and seek to implement a higher truth, or point of view, or action in each situation that can harmonize the opposing ideas, conflicts between people, and other forms of opposition. [ref]

Introducing Valori Umani

I have been super busy during the holidays so i wasn't very active in updating my doodle blog. Now, i had the time to dig into my archives and finally here's the debut my new series which i want to call "Valori Umani". This term simply means Human Values in Italian, hehe.( I just want to make it sound good.) Anyways, i doodled these last April 2008 in my planner/doodle book and i spiced it up a bit putting some colors.

These drawings means so much to me. It is a discovery of my self and looking back into the universal human values that we learn during our childhood days which became the guiding principles of our lives. I really like this definition by gurusoftware.net that a Value is a belief, a mission, or a philosophy that is meaningful. These things are intangible like what St. Exupery said in The Little Prince, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."

There are so many values in life and they differ from one person to another. Some may value pride, some would rather choose humility. Some prefer to be more of what they are, some are simply contented. For me, there are so much things to value in life, others are very limited to what they think are valuable to them. I hope this series will translate what values mean for me in a form of a visual art. Valori Umani hopes that you may also ponder on the things that makes your life meaningful. What do you values in life? And more importantly, why are some of these values more important than the others?

Mindanao Bloggers Summit 4

This year, the Zamboanga Bloggers are hosting this year's Mindanao Bloggers Summit. As part of the core group, i was the one responsible to do the multimedia stuff like the motion graphics, poster design, etc. The first poster design i did was very simple and minimalistic, which is not really my style. It didn't really relayed the message of this year's theme which is The Mindanao Project: Weaving Voices Online. So i made another design which is more vibrant, appealing and has Zamboanga/Mindanao elements in it. I used a sort of doodle style in it with colors and patterns. After doing the poster, i animated it using after effects for the titles. The music is inspired from of my new favorite artist, Takashi Murakami, who made an animation for a fashion brand, Louis Vuitton. The music is titled "Different Colors" by Fantastic Plastic Machine. I hope that the bloggers will like my works.

MBS4 is three days away and it'll be three busy days. On October 29, there will be a series of seminars about blogging to be held at the College AVR of Ateneo de Zamboanga University. Simultaneously, some chosen bloggers and I will be having a trip up north to visit a mining site. The company is our biggest sponsor in the event so much thanks to them :D It their time to be heard after all the negative things that we hear about the mining industry. The summit proper will happen on the next day at the Ballroom of Garden Orchid Hotel. With a registration fee of 500, you will get to listen to some of Philippines Top Bloggers and people in the IT industry like Bloggie Robillo, Aileen Apolo-de Jesus, Janette Toral, and more. And then there was sunrise. I just turned 20 and i feel happy to be with my friends and family yesterday. Thanks for all those you remembered and greeted and made my day the best. Now that im 2 decades old, im looking forward for more adventures in life and more dreams to be fulfilled. I just finished another chapter and as i unfold the next pages of my life, i expect a lot of challenges, difficulties, obstacles and, difinitely, opportunities for me. Thanks for my mom and dad and my siblings for being there always, supporting me and being a great family for me. Of course to my friends whom i treasure, we may have our lives of our own now but i hope that our friendship will never change. Oh noes! This doodle is so delayed. Yesterday, i was so busy coz i have to make an AVP for a debut so i didn't have the time to create this. Anyways, ill try to make two today ^^. Chrystolite, also known as Peridot, is the birthstone of August. I created this for all the August celebrants out there including my favorite website, DeviantArt.com who is now on its 10th year. I discovered it 4 years ago when i was a freshmen college student in the university. I was interested to join this community because i need resources, inspiration and a place where to showcase my artworks. I grew as a graphic designer and artist from my constant exposure of beautiful artworks and informative tutorials and tips that i get from the site. This is my attempt to get gross.hehe. I don't know but i have seen many artworks that shows intestines and brains that are cool. Im not really sure why there are people who find amusement in grotesque or bloody stuff. No wonder i didn't take nursing in college coz im not interested in touching people especially when their insides are tucked out. No offense to nurses or doctors, but i just cant stand blood for a long period of time. I really salute these people coz they have the guts to do their jobs. Anyways, this doodle is part of my new project, 12 doodles of August as part of my countdown of my 2nd birthdecade. This one is tough but hopefully i can do this series on time. It's another journal entry from my 2009 planner. Dated February 9-15, 2009. This week is a very emotional week. I have this deviant art addiction for children's storybook style of illustrations lately. I really the simple shaky strokes that reminds me of my childhood days when i used to make simple drawings in my pad paper. There is an innocence that is beautiful to look at. The fusion of this style and the skill of today's artist made it more beautiful. I just love the little whimsical creatures, though weird, is kinda cute. The pastel colors and some vibrant ones just bring joy to every monitors or storybooks (if published.) One day i dream of having my own storybook, too, like the ever famous Christian Hans Andersen, Lemony Snickets, Lewis Caroll and Dr. Seuss. This is my latest digital doodle i made in illustrator. I actually made this a month ago but i kept it in my computer and almost forgot to finish it. I decided to finalize this one so I can post this while I have the time. The last thing I did is to add a texture so it won't look plain, i guess. Again, I used the ukkil style in this one like what I did in my previous doodles but this one is more clean and detailed. I titled it "Orient Pearl Odyssey" because i don't want to give it an obvious title like "the tales of the mermaid and her undersea friends"...hehe. Orient Pearl refers to Philippines as what the early conquistadors call it. I want to label this piece as a Filipino art though it has the influence of the western doodly character style. This is like a Filipino storybook version of Little Mermaid in her search of the orient pearl. It is also symbolic of how I feel towards the Filipinos around the world. We are highly influenced by the foreigners who once colonized us. Now, we can see its influence in our food, clothing, lifestyle, music and arts. It is our struggle as filipinos to look for our identity which is now a question mark for everyone. We don't have a strong identity in the world which one can easily point out in whichever aspect of life. We are so diverse and divided like our archipelagic country. So, it is also my advocacy as an artist and a Filipino to search for that identity so that one day we Filipinos will be looked in a different perspective in the whole world. Talking about Filipinos, i want to greet all Filipinos a belated happy independence day! Let us be proud of who we are and keep the fire burning in our hearts as we continue the odysseys of our lives. :D

Stickraffiti is a graffiti that you can stick everywhere. It is basically a sticker with doodles on it and you can put in public places. I posted something like this before but i decided to give it a new name. It was called "sticker bombing" but i think its sounds too scary thinking about the situation of the place where i live. It is more of a sticker graffiti than a sticker bomb so i created a new term, stickraffiti!!! sounds sticky eh? hehe. Anyways, I prepared the stickers back home and spread my art in the streets of some place i went last week.:D here are some snapshots ^^,

The Fray Music Video Doodles - Heartless

The first time i saw this on TV, i instantly fell in love with this video. It shows how doodles are recognized as a trend in the art of creating music videos. This song is an acoustic cover of Kanye West's "Heartless." The story is about a kindergarten romance. The boy uses his pencil and paper to express his emotions. In our world of doodles, we can visualize what we feel deep inside. Our imagination can run freely through our fingertips without anyone telling us what we can or cannot do. I can really relate with this music video because i can see myself in the boy. So just watch it and appreciate the art of doodling and animation. :D

The last time I went snorkeling was a disappointment. It was just last month when we went to Sta. Cruz island. Our family and relatives in my father's side enjoyed a sunny saturday swimming and playing in the pink sands of the island. I am very excited to borrow some goggles and take a look at the coral reefs. To my dismay, I saw nothing but debris of a once beautiful garden of reefs. This is my third time to go to the island and i was more than 1o years ago when i first discovered the mystic beach. I was very young and i can hardly swim. My dad rented a snorkeling kit for me. When I first opened my eyes underwater (with goggles, of course^^), it was magical. The seabed was full of color and there are various kinds of fish wandering in the forest of corals. It's so beautiful. I don't want to go home but i had to. It took more than 10 years for me to come back to the island (because of safety reasons). Now, all those beautiful fishes and corals are gone. :( The last time i saw such beautiful underwater scenes was when i watched "Finding Nemo."

Holy Week

This year the holy week was earlier than i expected. For the past four years, we spent our holy week with the family outside the city but this year we stayed here in zamboanga. Anyways, holy week is not really important to me because i am not a catholic. But because im a Filipino, i still respect the sacred days where people commemorate the sacrifice of God for us. When i was a kid, holy week is a sad week. There are no shows in TV and all stores are closed. But i realized that the essence of the holy week is the love of God for us. My favorite part of the greatest story ever told is when Jesus resurrected. This is a revelation to us because through his resurrection, Christ became a life-giving spirit and we can directly experience God through the Spirit. When Jesus rose from the dead, we all celebrate. Easter Sunday represents the day when the resurrection happened. It is my favorite day in the holy week because of the true meaning of the easter day. because of this, i was inspired to create a quick vector art that i made during the eve of this years easter sunday. I hope you like it. :D

Doodle Entry #13 and #14

The date is January 15, 16, 17 and 18, 2009. I doodled this during the symposium conducted by the Ateneo de Naga faculty to orient us about multimedia and animation up there. I was really inspired by their works so i drew this. While i was doodling this one, i felt very ambitious. I dream that someday I will rule my own world. It may have different meanings, having my own mansion (or city), or maybe I will become a known and influential person in my field someday. That week, my cousin was also married and as you can see in the 2nd doodle, it shows how I feel for them. Now, they have their baby already! I would also like to give a shoutout to my best friend, Juan Paolo T. Alfaro. Sorry dude, I missed your birthday for 2 years already. I hope you like my doodle. :D

Doodle Archives

I just discovered in my digital attic some of my doodles that i created few years ago. This set are doodles that i made during some of my classes during my junior years in the university. The first one is "Religious Studies" which I created a vector version of it named "Batang Yagit". The vector art was featured for a week at vexels.net, an online community for vector and vexel artist which short lived. It is one of my favorite works thats why i used it in my blog layout. :D

The next one is "Artificial Intelligence." I doodle it in my homework about robots. If you can see it closely, you can read some terms related to artificial intelligence and robots. Like the first one, i also created a vector art out of it.

Next is "PolSci" (Political Science). This is one fun doodle. I created this while listening to the teacher. Whenever I hear some interesting words like "Pambansang Awit (National Anthem)", i immediately draw the first thing that pops out of my mind. There is also a vector version of it here.

Actually, i have one more doodle in the set but i posted it a long time ago. It is a doodle that i created during my Computer Science class. It is more of a sarcastic doodle which says how i love programming. I also created a poem using some programming terms. Here's the link.

Sticker Bombing!

I did this last january at the city streets. I think the city was so dull and boring so i decided to bomb the streets with stickahz! i designed a pink sticker paper with my doodles and went to the city and secretly left my prints in the walls and posts. It's my first time to vandalize so it was nerve wracking. Adrenaline was all over my body but when i successfully landed my bombs it felt like a mission accomplished. I stop and take a glance at the opposite side of the street and look at it. So here are some snapshots of the stickers.

Surprisingly, after a few days most of them were gone. The second photo shows how the left part was ripped. I guess that the city janitors destroyed them or maybe the street children were so attracted to it and tried to steal my art. Well, that's it. I'm not sure if i'm gonna do it again, but i bet its fun to do it again!

Morality is basically knowing what is good and what is bad. It is something that we don't have after birth, but is something that we develop as we grow. Our concept of morality is highly influenced by someone who has the authority. As kids, we look up to our parents and follow their set of "rules." These rules determines what is right and what is wrong. As we experience things in life, we also discover the outside world. Our concept of morality is also influenced by our religion, our culture and society. But as we mature, we become more independent. We determine, based on our experiences and the influence of the external forces, our own concept of morality. If you are matured enough, that person in power that influences your concept of morality would be yourself.

just want to share my doodle entries number 48 and 49 in my journal/planner, dated february 26-28, 2009. i scanned it for marejada but d xa ginamit so i decided to post it here n lng.hehe
the first doodle is about our net connection na bumalik after a week of vacation.lol. the second one is about this virus that i thought i had. the week before kc kinagat (ata) ako sa paa ng pusa dun sa golf. di ko nakita kung kinagat ba tlga ako o "kambras" lang sa sobrang bilis ng pangyayari. so the week after i was injected like 6 times ng antirabies para xur.. nwei, i just imagined how it would feel if totoo ngang kinagat ako ng miming(like ooozing scary stuff in my body).

On Chowder and Paisleys

Have you seen Chowder? Oh that cute stupid thing in Cartoon Network? Well, Chowder it the next cutest thing in TV. He is a squeezy toy inspired character who is an apprentice of a chef named Mung Daal. What I like about the show is the style of animation that they used. They used patterns on the characters' clothing or skin, when a character moves, their patterns do not follow, but display as a "static" background.

I also love how they used stop motion and puppets at the end of the show. Anyways, I made this character while practicing drawing in Flash. I used one type of brush and created variations of thickness by zooming in and out while drawing. I created the bold outlines first and then zoomed it to created dots and dashes for the details. The design is inspired by paisley patterns. I colored and textured it in photoshop using this amazing victorian textures [link], of course inspired by the show "Chowder". I named it "Ambao" coined by my sister's goddaughter, Mica, which means daga or mouse. (she is afraid of tiny fury creatures.) Click on the image for larger view.

Meet Nathan and Drix

Nathan and Drix are my fictional characters that i designed for my animation class. Nathan is my protagonist and Drix is his sidekick. Nathan is an 18 year old boy who cannot live without his headphones, pen and sneakers. He loves music and arts. He's a hiphop dancer and he loves wearing retro inspired shirts. He's a lefty, and drawing is his past time. Wherever he goes, he will always look colorful. (He love neon colors.) He is softspoken and introverted but happy-go-luck and optimistic all the time. Drix, on the other hand, is a walking record player. No one can hear his music but the one that owns him. His music changes to the tune of his master's mood. He is such a charming pet and whenever Nathan feels happy or sad, he'll always be at his side.

To be an artist you have to practice sketching or doodling everyday by simply starting at drawing objects around us. Through this, we make our eyes familiar with the basic shapes of things that we see. Toki Doki is one of my favorite graphic designers because of his creative and very simple character designs that is made out of simple everyday objects such as milk cartons or tape recorders. He is a pop artist located in US and is highly influenced in Japanese pop. All of his artworks can be seen in his outfit, from top to toe. Here is one of cszdoodles that is inspired by tokidoki.

Painted Fantasy

I sketched this artwork in an index card, scanned it and digitally colored using photoshop... about a year ago. I found it in my archive folders somewhere in my pc and i couldn't believe that i named the uncolored one "fantasy" and the colored one "painted." (That's how i got the title Painted fantasy.hehe) Anyways, this art is just an expression of who am i during my freshmen days in adzu. it has an eaglet as a sign of my immaturity as a collegian. I love music so i had wavy musical stuffs, a guitar and a poor attempt to draw two huge speakers a megaphone. There is a moon which is actually the pattern that we used in our mural painting during the fiesta. I also included emo people because it was my first time to encounter such species. if life is a java program what would i do with it?
First, i'll system-dot-out-dot-print-line the words "hello world"
or perhaps "hello hell?", for these are the sweetest words you'll hear
even before your nose starts bleeding.

I would fill the class with destruction, i mean construction (my bad)
and construct the attributes studentClassStanding equals to 70
and the studentFinalGrade to negative 70.
isn't that sweet?

now i could make them suffer, i mean buffer...
a bufferedReader to read the inputfile
and store it to an array
which i will call nameOfStudentsWhoWillFailThisSubject.

After that, i could do a selection sort
or bubble sort to see who passed my criteria.
On my previous sorts, it returned an integer 7
just kidding!....it's actually 2.

Sometimes i store them into a linked list
and do the method studentBleedUntoDeath
with parameter studentNose, i mean studentNode.

And of course i will not let this pass away,
my favorite method, studentTorture(students) .
That's just the basic part of it!

After that, i will make a queue studentRecord
and enqueue them with onlyMeCouldAnswerquizzes
until they dequeue all by themselves.
It's so enjoyable.

I also love to do error-checking
by passing them to a method named noOneShouldPass,
if an error occurs ill throw them,
and catch some Exception named onlyThoseWhoHaveEightyAndAbove.

One school year i evenn had this class
stored them in a doubly-linked list
and i stacked them with lots of variables
named impossibleProgrammingAssignments.

Finally, I had a do-while loop
that will do an increment in studentBrainDamage
while studentsBloodPressure is not equal to zero.

And that's just the start of it.

The Campaign Circus

Currently, I am the Layout Artist and Creative director of the Beacon Newsmagazine in Ateneo de Zamboanga University. Last week, we released the special issue on sanggu elections. Being a layout artist in beacon is my favorite job in my extra-curricular life. Layouting means presswork and presswork means food.haha. It is really fun to layout not only because of munching but the fact that everyone will be looking at your paper and appreciate another beacon work. I also have the creative freedom to choose whichever style i want to use.

In my one year as a layout artist, we never had an experience like what have happened to me during the presswork of this issue. I became a cartoonist!haha. One of our pages really needs an artwork or picture but he had no more time to spare. The EIC requested me to draw some illustration but i was kinda hestitant. It was already 12:30 and I have to go to my next class. Good thing there was no activity so I had time to try drawing. Back at the beacon office I showed my work and they laughed. I was embarrassed but I did not took it seriously. I really wasn't sure on what to feel. Buti na lang malakas ako mang-dedma. Anyways. here is my drawing titled Campaign Circus.

In the beginning

How will you know that a child possesses an eye for an artist? During the journalism seminar that i attended at Baguio, last September 2007, i learned one simple fact that could determine whether a child will be an artist or not. It's as simple as 1-2-3. Check out the last three pages (or two) of one of the child's notebook and there you can see his first few masterpieces. The moment i heard it, memories came flashing in my mind: a sheet of paper full of doodles, a family portrait with a house and a tree, u shaped-faces that have small eyes and big heads, a landscape of rice field with a nipa hut and sun peeking between two mountains, etc. During high school this habit went to a new level. I bought a green apple notebook and filled it with random stuff. Poems, comic drawings, ads?, sketches and doodles. Unfortunately i lost the notebook and bid memories goodbye. Drawing became an instrument for me to express emotions and serve as reminder for me of what events or inspiration that came to me. This is artistry for me.
